As a songwriter, I like to mix jazzy musical ideas and thoughtful lyrics within the familiar form of pop music. I find it easy to work within the verse-chorus-verse structure of pop music. Having such a well-defined song structure frees me to be playful and creative within that structure- kind of like the walls of a playground.

My musical background runs the gamut from being a 10-year-old Kurt Cobain wannabe to studying jazz and classical music throughout my teens. Of all musical genres, jazz resonates with me most. I only wish I were better at playing it.

Songwriting is one of my favorite pastimes. I try to approach it with a sense of responsibility, knowing that music and lyrics can have a powerful affect on listeners. But I also like to retain a light-heartedness and sense of humor when writing. It's this balance that keeps the music feeling fresh.
